WE'VE MADE IT!!!!

We finally made it home safe and sound. After about 30 hours of flying, layovers, customs, and more security checks then you can imagine we landed safely in Las Vegas at around 11:45pm onFriday night. Luke was a dream on the flights. He played with his toys on the first flight, and slept the whole time on the flight from Amsterdam to St. Paul, and played with toys and took a nap on the last flight to Vegas.

Landing home was pretty emotional for Stacey and I, we've been gone so long we didn't think we'd ever get back, and Luke became a citizen of the U.S. the second customs stamped his passport. We spent Friday night at Brad and Irene's down inVegas, and woke up to the best breakfast in the whole world.

Luke's adjusting well to his new home and is getting braver around the dogs every second. He's given his grandpa a high five and shown grandma his new room. He's even let his aunt and cousin's hold him and play with him, which is a huge hurdle to overcome.

Here's a picture of Stacey and Luke at the top of a Gondola ride that overlooks the city of Almaty. The population is over 1 million in the city it's pretty big. The mountains are beautiful this country reminds me of Utah with the Mountains and desert climates. We're doing fine, we tried to change our flights to the 21st but were unable to. We will be flying home on the 23rd and arriving in Las Vegas at about 11pm. Can't wait to see everybody we're counting down the hours... Love ya all

Almaty!!!

We made it to Almaty,one step closer to coming home!! Luke is to little to sit in his own seat so he sat on my lap for the flight. He was fine until they gave us a seat belt attachment for my belt. He was fine until we put that on. He SCREAMED for the first 10 minutes of the flight. Not just crying or sobbing but full on ear splitting screams. The other passengers were over joyed to be on the flight with us. But he ended up calming down. We made it here with the two of us covered in apple juice and cookie crumbs. He fell asleep the last 15 minutes, and slept right through the landing.
We are staying in a cute little apartment. Almaty is a very large city with all the modern convinces we are used to. Its so so nice to get a little taste of home. Dewey even cooked a spaghetti dinner last night. I cant tell you how good it was to taste familiar food again. There is a mall not to far from where we are staying with an Internet cafe. They don't have a way to upload pics but we can still post. Luke's Dr's appointment is today (Thurs 16Th) at 2pm. I hope the Dr. has patience, Luke is not going to like it one bit.

Our last Kyzylorda post

We are leaving Kyzylorda tomorrow at noon and flying to Almaty! (Wed, 15th) So this is our last post from Kyzylorda. We are not sure exactly when we are coming home. We are hoping for the 23rd. We are having issues with getting our flights. March 22nd is a major holiday in Kazakhstan, from what we gather their Independence day. So flights are booked up. We will find out once we get to Almaty and go to the airlines office. In Almaty we will be staying in an apartment. We hear there is an Internet cafe not to far from where we will be so we should be able to post.
Luke is doing wonderful!! We cant believe how much he can eat, and he is not a picky eater. He's fine riding in a car. More so then me, there are so seat belts let alone car seats. He just rides on our lap, way to scary for me. Cross your fingers for us on his first flight tomorrow.
We cant wait to get home!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FIELD TRIP

This photo is of a mauseleum( apologies for the mispelling) in Turkmeistan. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive from where we're at now on some very bumpy freeway. It's considered one of the worlds largest mauseleums and dates back to 900 a.d., the construction of this building was amazing and still contains some of the logs used for scaffolding in the structure. Along the drive to get there we saw thousands and thousands of angora, cows, horses, donkeys and a few camels. None of them fenced in, most had a herder on horseback close by. It was kind of how I would picture the old west before barbwire was invented. It was a long day, especially without anyone but our cab driver Ravil and he doesnt speak english, but Stacey and I were glad we mad the trip to visit this sacred place. We are told that muslims around the world consider 6 visits to this shrine as equivalent to mecca. Miss you all.

ITS OFFICIAL

Luke spent his last day at the orphanage yesterday. We officially became his parents at 4:00pm on Sunday March 11th!!!! It was an emotional and exciting time for us. This picture is of the director of the orphanage (far left), Stacey & Luke, Nadia our coordinator and Julia our translator. Luke didn't fuss a bit leaving the orphanage, according to our translator he has probably never been outside of it since his coming there when he was a new born baby. His first night with us went very well. He slept in his crib and just woke up a couple of time to make sure me and Stacey we're okay. Luke's not a big fan of bathing, and there only so many toys we can fit into his little plastic wash bin so hopefully that changes when he gets in a tub back home. We sure miss everyone and can't wait to get home.

This is the last picture of Luke in pink. We were trying to quit posting pictures of our son in pink, but the caregivers dress him in whatever clothes are available. We just happened to bring a toy of piglet who has the same outfit on. I caught this picture of Stacey holding piglet and realized the outfit resemblance. It's to funny. Anyway Luke looks good in pink, and is very secure in his maculinity :).

They are starting a holiday over here called "womens day" which officially starts tomorrow. It's a three day celebration for women, in which they are supposed to be pampered for, and showered with gifts. Stacey's already got it on her list of local customs that will be expected when we get home :).

Boys Playing

Luke and Dewey were playing a game where they pushed the toys back and forth to each other. I think I had more fun watching then they did playing. Luke has never been around men. He just stares at Dewey with a look of total fascination. I think he is a little in awe of his dad. They are so cute together!!

Taking a walk

It finally warmed up a little today so we could spend some time outside. On our visit to the orphanage we took Luke outside and walked around. He liked walking himself much more then being carried. The building to the left is the main offices. The gate right behind us is the front gate that we come in every day. He is so bundled up its hard to tell how much fun he had.

During our time in between visits Dewey and I walked around town. We know our way around just enough to not get lost. It was so nice to be out and about. We went to the "mall" and bought our favorite bread. The bread here is all fresh and homemade. It only lasts one to two days max. We took tons of pics of town. We don't want to forget anything from this adventure.

Here's a beautiful picture of Stacey and Luke. Luke was having some serious temper tantrums earlier in the week and kept wanting to go back with the other kids and would throw a fit when he couldn't. We were pretty worried and all the workers at the orphanage have told us this is very normal. That all of the kids after being shown so much love after never having any, start to test right away with what they can and can't do. Yesterday and today we're both awesome days and no temper tantrums. This picture is after Stacey calmed Luke down and he fell asleep in her arms for the first time within a couple of minutes after this picture. Hope everyone is well back home.

Here's a new picture of Luke in his new clothes. We had to change him to see if the clothes we got would fit him. He loves them, we're doing the countdown and can finally pick him up from the orphanage after March 11th. We can't wait!!!
